Demons of Necromancy

Unless otherwise noted, these definitons are taken from Michelle Belanger's Dictionary of Demons, 2021 edition.

Ariton

Bifrons
A demon attributed with the power to move the bodies of the dead from one place to another, Bifrons is named in Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft and Wierus's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, as well as the Book of Incantations.  He is said first to take the form of a monster, but he can also appear as a man.  He teaches astrology, geometry, and other arts and sciences, as well as the virtues of precious stones and woods.  He also empties coffins and lights corpse candles on graves.  Although neither the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum nor Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft credit him with a specific rank, he is nevertheless said to rule over a total of twenty-six legions of spirits.  In both the Goetia and the Book of Incantations Bifrons is accorded the rank of earl.  According to these texts, he only has six legions of spirits beneath him.  The Goetia of Dr. Rudd claims that the angel Ariel (probably spelled Ariet) has the power to constrain him.  See also BOOK OF INCANTATIONS, GOETIA, RUDD, SCOT, WIERUS.

Gamigin
The fourth spirit named among the demons of the Goetia.  According to Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft, Gamigan is a great marquis ruling over thirty spirits.  He first manifests in the form of a little horse, but he can change this shape to assume the form of a man.  Gamigan is a great marquis ruling over thirty legions of lesser spirits.   Gamigan's main power is a form of necromancy.  He is reputed to be able to call upon the souls of those drowned in the sea as well as any souls confined to purgatory and cause them to appear in "airy" or non-physical bodies.  He can further force them to submit to interrogation, answering any question put to them.  His name is given as Gamygyn by Wierus in his Pseudomonarchia Daemonum.  In the Goetia of Dr. Rudd, this demon's initial form is said to be that of both a little horse and an ass.  He is constrained by the angel Elemiah.  In the Book of Incantations, he is also a marquis who appears in the form of a little horse or donkey.  He teaches liberal sciences and gives an account of the souls who die in sin.  See also BOOK OF INCANTATIONS, GOETIA, RUDD, SCOT, WIERUS.

Murmur
The fifty-forth demon named in the Goetia.  Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft identifies this demon as both a duke and an earl.  He is said to appear in the shape of a soldier riding a gryphon.  As befitting his rank, he wears a ducal crown upon his dead.  He has command over thirty legions of lesser spirits, and when he manifests, two of his ministers go before him, sounding trumpets.  Wierus's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum says that he once belonged partly to the heavenly Order of Thrones and partly to the Order of Angels.  The Welsh Book of Incantations agrees.  Murmur teaches philosophy and has the power to call the souls of the departed, making them appear and answer any questions put to them.  In the Goetia of Dr. Rudd, his name is given as Marmus.  He is said to be constrained in the name of the angel Nithael.  See also BOOK OF INCANTATIONS, GOETIA, RUDD, SCOT, WIERUS.
