The word “robot” was invented by Czech writer Josef Čapek for an artificial man in the famous play R. U. R. (“Rossum's Universal Robots”) written by his brother Karel Čapek in 1920. Later it became a general term used for automated devices of various kinds.

There's a testing protocol that Google and other websites use that wants to make sure you aren't one of these little fellows...

And then and only then is there Y2K whereas everyone, the entire world, prepared for the worst to happen because this, that or the other said it would....
